Non Technical Buying Guide
Buying a plasma or LCD TV:
Want to know what you should look for when buying a TV? If you are at all like me, and you are not technical and do not want to spend hours reading up about pixels and contrast in order to buy your new toy, here is a quick guide about buying a TV online.
I want to see my TV before I buy
Many people don’t like the idea of buying a TV online because they can’t see the product. My advice is to go shopping on the high street check out the various makes and models see the quality, finish, picture and sound capability then buy your television online. You will get a much better deal as online retailers do not have the staffing costs and overheads that shops do.
What size TV should I buy?
Get a feel for the size screen you need. It might sound really cool to have a 50″ plasma but will it fit nicely in your living room? A 20″ TV is perfect for a small bedroom or kitchen but most people opt for larger models in the living room, as often people wall mount their television meaning that the screen can often be across the room from the sofa, so keep that in mind when you buy your TV.
What is Pixel Resolution?
Check what the pixel resolution is, in general the higher the number of pixels the sharper the picture.
- What does 720p mean? If a TV’s resolution is 1,280×720 then each line appears on the screen at exactly the same time creating a smoother picture.
- What does 1080i mean? If a TV is 1080i then the picture is interlaced and suits a more detailed picture perfect for wildlife programmes.
- What does 1080p mean? If a TV is 1080p each line is displayed on the screen at the same time, just like the 720p but better. This resolution is what you want if you love watching action movies.
What about high-definition game play?
If you want to play video games with an Xbox360 or a Playstation 3, otherwise known as a PS3, you should go for a 1080p Television as this is the output they use.
What about high-definition DVD?
The new format for DVD players is called blu-ray, this format has also been engineered for 1080p output, therefore if you watch a lot of movies and you intend to buy a blu-ray player, without a shadow of a doubt go for a 1080p TV.
What is Refresh Rate?
This is more important if you like watching fast moving images on your television, if you think this applies to you then go for a 100Hz TV. This feature could make your TV more expensive so think about whether the extra money is worth it.
Price
Finally always go for a price you are happy with. Technology changes all the time, hence the fact that prices are falling all the time. That is why it is important to get the best price possible for your television. At Buy TVs Online we partner with sites to bring you great offers and discount codes.
