Plasma and LCD TV Review

LCD TVs deliver a Liquid Crystal Display, which uses a combination of white light and electric current together with LCD pixels to emit a crystal clear picture. In contrast a plasma TV is made up of two sheets of glass and lots of tiny chambers, phosphors utilise electric current to display a very sharp picture. LCDs are available in smaller versions down to about 14 inches, where as plasma televisions come in larger sizes, although you can now buy large LCD TVs as well.

In the past Plasma TVs suffered from image burn in, this is not so much of an issue nowadays and does not occur with LCD TVs. In terms of picture quality Plasma TVs deliver better brightness and contrast where as if you buy an LCD TV they reflect less light and glare and perform better in natural light. Price wise both types have dramatically come down in price although the quality of the picture will be down to which make and model you buy.

LED TVs or Light Emitting Diode TVs are the new wave of crystal clear home entertainment viewing. The diodes used actually emit light as opposed to reflecting it making the picture much brighter. An LED TV is basically an LCD which uses light emitting diodes to produce a picture. Some LCD Televisions use edge-lit LEDS, which run across the outer edge of the display or back-lit which means LEDs run across the whole back of the screen. The difference means edge-lit screens can be thinner than back-lit. Back lit LCD LED TVs produce darker blacks and are more expensive. But according to some reports produce far better HD picture quality.

3D TV Review

Many people now want to buy a 3D TV because they provide a stereoscopic 3D picture in your home. The technology has been around for years but not until recently has it become in demand. 3D televisions are made up of edge-lit LEDs with some being less than half an inch thick. Screen sizes vary up to 70 inches. All the top manufacturers are now making 3D TVs, Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sony are all working on 3D Blu-Ray players and home audio systems. Over the next couple of years as prices come down many people will be rushing to buy a 3D TV, expect to see lots of TVs with a 3D ready sticker, which means it is capable of displaying 3D images.
